Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A carbon sequestration process for fossil fuel combustion offers an economical and long-lasting method for utilizing almost unlimited amounts of carbon. Carbonaceous materials are used to make charcoal and syngas (for hydrogen and ammonia production). A scrubbing media for fossil fuel CO2, SOx and NOx reduction is made from charcoal and ammonia and produces a carbon-rich nitrogen fertilizer. The soil amendment provides benefits such as a return of essential micronutrients, increases in cation exchange capacity, water holding capacity, soil fertility and reduces nutrient leaching demonstrating crop yields increases of over 20%. The carbon optimized for soil amendment use can last for thousands of years. Low hydrogen to ammonia conversion rates offer economical process conditions and leave 70% of the hydrogen for sale. Contributions to long-term soil fertility, restoration of topsoil, improved rural employment and co-products from emissions scrubbing are a few of the sustainable benefits.
