Phase Transition Behavior of Novel Soybean Oil-based Thermosensitive Polymers [abstract]. 35th Annual Meeting & Exposition of Controlled Release Society, July 12-16, 2008, New York, NY. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The thermal phase transition behavior of novel soybean oil-based polymers, i.e., hydrolyzed polymers of (epoxidized) soybean oil, was studied. The phase transition temperatures (cloud points) were determined from the inflection points of the light transmittance vs. temperature curves. The effect of polymer concentration on the cloud points was investigated. The transmittance increased sharply as the temperature was raised beyond certain values, suggesting dissociation of polymer aggregates at higher temperatures. The cloud points were insensitive to polymer concentration but were higher for the epoxidized polymer. |
