Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: We note three new host records and a new state record for apple mealybug, Phenacoccus aceris, a polyphagous pest of rosaceous fruit trees. Newly reported hosts in the United States include spike winter hazel (Corylopsis spicata), witch hazel (Hamamelis sp.), and azalea (Rhododendron sp.). This is the first report of apple mealybug associated with members of the family Hamamelidaceae, and it expands the known host range to include three additional plant genera. It expands upon the known geographical range to include New York state.
