In our attempt to identify the genes of MDV which encode proteins or antigens important for virus neutralization and virulence, we constructed a genomic expression library. A monoclonal antibody specific for MDV common antigen was used to screen this library and a recombinant MDV phage clone was identified. Sequence analysis revealed an open reading frame encoding a protein homologous to the HSV large subunit of the ribonucleotide reductase (RR1). This paper describes the characterization of the small subunit of the MDV RR2. |
