There is an increased risk of water erosion, but a low risk of wind erosion following track disturbance at Transition-type sites. Overall vegetation (primarily grass) recovery can take less than twelve months following treatment although shrub cover recovery can take up to three years. Full site recovery, including microbiotic crust recovery is likely to take six years or longer following treatment, and soil infiltration rates may be negatively affected by disturbance for up to four years. Some caution should be used applying track disturbance to Transition-type sites, but repeated disturbance can occur between four and six years of the first disturbance without major risk to permanent site damage.
