Principle of operation

location of loggers in study bend

Debris stuctures

Debris structures were placed in channel bends where velocities are highest in an attempt to slow bank erosion and create favorable velocity regimes for fish populations, which lie around 10-15 cm/s for centrarchids and ictalurids.

 Acoustic doppler logger

Acoustic Doppler Loggers were used to measure velocities inside and outside the debris structures.

recorded velocities within debris stuctures

Loggers recorded velocities within debris stuctures that were only 50% to 60% as great as those in the channel adjacent to the stucture or in the bend without debris stuctures.
