Little Topashaw Creek - Channel Stabilization - Topagraphy at Study Bend

Topography at study bend

Detailed surveys of a typical bend show scour of deeper pools in the middle of the channel and deposition of material at the toe of the steep outer bank. Overall, deposition of sediments within and adjacent to the LWDS produced a net decrease in cross-sectional area and channel volume. Instead of exporting sediment downstream, the reach retained about 8,225 m3 of sediments during the first year following construction, or about 4.5 m3 per m of channel.
