Little Topashaw Creek - Vegetative control of gullies |
Gullies produced by overbank drainage, which are common along these incised channels, are typically stabilized by construction of drop pipes. In the Little Topashaw project, dense plantings of switchgrass were employed to create vegetative barriersto stabilize gullies produced by flow over stream banks. Limited use of bank grading and shaping, geotextiles, herbicides, and soil amendments was made to enhance development of these vegetated inlets. After two growing seasons, one of the inlets was tested by pumping water into it from the creek. | |
