More information about pollination and crossbreeding—
How does the pollen travel?
Bees or other pollinating insects were the most likely carriers. Plum pollen is not carried far by wind.
What other plants could be pollinated by HoneySweet?
Since HoneySweet is in the species Prunus domestica and as such has six sets of chromosomes, while most other stone fruits and wild Prunus species have only two sets, crossbreeding is highly unlikely. There are no reports of natural hybrids of P. domestica. Even in breeding programs where great efforts are made, it is difficult to produce fertile hybrids with this species. Therefore, cross pollination with other stone fruit and wild Prunus is unlikely.
