University of Mississippi Field Station at Bay Springs |
Located near Oxford and the National Sedimentation Laboratory, the University of Mississippi Field Station at Bay Springs provides numerous avenues for cooperation between University researchers and scientists of the NSL Water Quality and Ecology research unit. Historically attributed as an excellent location for water quality and ecological studies, recent renovations and additions to facilities at the UMFS are making it a landmark site for future studies. Current cooperative efforts include mesocosm constructed wetlands and vegetative ditches for reducing agricultural contaminants. A greenhouse study if documenting contaminant uptake by different species of native aquatic plants. Dr. Jim Highsmith is Director of the Field Station.
