We identify walnut and prunus (almond and peach) genotypes resistant to crown gall disease in order to generate novel disease resistant walnut hybrids for use as rootstocks.

We work on improving grain quality, stress tolerance, and overall yield using conventional genetic and breeding methods and state-of-the-art technologies.

One of our projects involves the use of Virus-Induced Gene Silencing (VIGS) —which shows up as white patches on these purple petunias— to identify genetic factors that control floral senescence and abscission.

We strive to develop effective and efficient control strategies for fungal diseases of grape.

Research interests include: infection biology, population genetics, and host resistance to fungal pathogens that attack the permanent, woody structure of the vine.
