New from ARS Info: Digital Photos on Science, Farming, Food, Environment

By Jim De Quattro
December 17, 1996

Photo editors and others now can download high-quality photo images of farm, food and scientific subjects from a new digital archive on the World Wide Web.

The Image Gallery of the Agricultural Research Service holds more than 200 images in nine categories. They are: plants, crops, fruits/veggies, animals, insects, education, illustrations, lab research and field research. New images are continually being added.

The gallery’s World Wide Web address is:

/is/graphics/photos/index.html

Each image in the gallery can be downloaded in three sizes: thumbnail, in-line size and full screen. Photo credits and captions are supplied.

Media sources that need higher resolution digital files or duplicate transparencies may contact the Photo Unit of ARS’ Information Staff by e-mail at arsphoto@asrr.arsusda.gov.

The images being added to the gallery are among the best of thousands of photographs produced by the Photo Unit over the years. Most were taken to illustrate stories about scientific projects published in ARS’ award-winning magazine, Agricultural Research. Recent issues of the magazine can be viewed online at:

In addition to online resources, the ARS Photo Unit has a conventional library of color and black-and-white photography on agricultural and related topics.
