Jesse and Janet Anderson's Chickens |
Jesse Anderson feeding chickens, probably about 1948. The White Leghorns were kept for eggs and the heavier Rhode Island Reds for cooking with dumplings [either "sad dumplings" (thin and doughy) or "fluffy dumplings" (full of air)]. The chickens were penned up at night in the two chicken houses to protect them from foxes and weasels. Submitted May 2006 by Glen Anderson, Raleigh Co. WV |
