The NAA Statistician provides research scientists and managers direct and individual statistical assistance by participating with scientists in planning experiments and interpreting results. He serves as an expert to give advice to program managers on experiments under consideration and/or applicable new statistical methodologies. In addition, he provides the Area management with an assessment of statistical validity and appropriateness of experimental design of all ARIS proposals and/or makes recommendations concerning the same.
Statistical services also provides training to scientists and managers in the use of statistical procedures. This training serves to increase their awareness of the need for and potential benefits from statistical methodologies. The Area Statistician arranges access to statistical analysis software (SAS) for all locations in the North Atlantic Area in addition to providing technical assistance in its use.
