Poster Instructions
Posters must fit on a 46"x 70" (H x W) surface. Poster boards are pushpin-compatible; presenters will need to provide their own pushpins.
Preparation of Abstracts
- Abstracts should be formatted in 12-point, Times New Roman font and preferably in Microsoft Word format.
- The top and side margins should all be one inch; please justify the right margin.
- The Title should begin on line 1 in boldface caps; italicize species names.
- Leave one blank line. Then type the authors' names - first name, middle initial and last name. The presenting author should be the FIRST author listed.
- On the next line spell out the complete name of the Presenter (Include Laboratory, Department, Institution, along with phone numbers and e-mail addresses). For multiple associations, use superscripts to associate authors with institutions.
- Leave one blank line. Begin the Abstract text on a new line with no indent; limit the text to no more than 30 single-spaced lines.
- No figures, columns, or tables, please.
- On a separate page, provide the name, address, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the contact person for all matters pertaining to the Fall Symposium presentation.
- The abstract should be informative and understandable to those not within the author's area of research. It should present what is important in the poster, moving from an introductory statement of the rationale and objectives or hypotheses, through materials and methods, to emphasize results, conclusions, and impact. The abstract should stand alone; do not deflect the reader with promises such as "will be discussed" or "will be explained." Limit use of abbreviations, and define the ones used in the text.
- Please send your completed abstract to Dr. Roger Lawson of USDA-ARS at rlawson66@verizon.net by 5:00 PM on Friday, September 26, 2014. If sent past this date there is no guarantee the abstract will make it into the program handout.
- Posters should be hand-carried to the Agricultural Library by 8 am on Thursday November 13, and mounted before the start of the event or dropped off at the Technology Transfer Coordinator's suite in Beltsville, Building 003 Rooms 306-308 on or before November 12, 2014 which will then be mounted by event staff the night before.
- Poster subject matter is not limited to climate change per se. Posters are desired directed to environmental effects on insects, ornamentals, crops, soil and air and water and efforts to overcome or exploit such effects. Of course coping for instance with excess heat, rainfall, UV light, CO2 etc. are also desired. If in doubt submit a poster.
