Driving to the National Arboretum |
There are two entrances to the Arboretum:
Driving from:
- Washington, D.C.
- Virginia and points south
- Virginia and points west
- Maryland and points north and east
- Beltsville Agricultural Research Center
Driving from Washington, D.C.
- Follow New York Avenue EAST to the intersection at Bladensburg Road
- Continue straight on New York Avenue about 50 yards
- Immediately bear RIGHT onto the Arboretum access road
- Turn RIGHT into the National Arboretum entrance
Driving from Virginia and points south via I-395
- Follow I 395 NORTH over the 14th Street Bridge, into the tunnel under the Capitol, until it ends at New York Avenue
- Turn right EAST onto the New York Avenue
- Follow directions for Driving from Washington, D.C., above
Driving from Virginia and points West via I-66
- Cross the Roosevelt Bridge and follow Constitution past the Capitol
- Bear LEFT onto Maryland Avenue
- Turn LEFT onto Bladensburg Road
- Turn RIGHT on New York Avenue
- Immediately bear RIGHT onto the Arboretum access road
- Turn right into the National Arboretum entrance
Driving from Maryland or points North and East
- Take I-495 to Exit 22
- Take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (I-295) SOUTH for approximately 7 miles
- Fork RIGHT to follow Route 50 WEST toward Washington, D.C. (Route 50 becomes New York Avenue)
- Turn LEFT onto Bladensburg Road
- Turn LEFT onto R Street, which ends at the Arboretum gate
The Arboretum can be reached from the Washington Metro
- Exit the Metro at the Stadium/Armory stop
- Take B2 bus towards Mt. Rainier
- Get off at the corner of Bladensburg Road and R Street
- Walk down R Street to the Arboretum gate
