Short Bio: Originally from Argentina, Dr. Bello grew up in the mountains of La Cumbre in Cordoba province. After earning her D.V.M. degree at Catholic University of Cordoba, she pursued graduate studies at Michigan State University, including a Master of Science in Animal Sciences, a Master of Science in Statistics and a PhD. Dr. Bello began her career serving as faculty in the Department of Statistics at Kansas State University (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor), where she held a 50% joint appointment with the Agricultural Experiment Station to support close collaborations with researchers across agriculture, veterinary medicine, and the biological sciences. She then moved to The Ohio State University Department of Animal Sciences as Professor of Systems Modeling, with research and teaching appointments. In January 2024, she joined the USDA ARS Northeast Area as an Area Statistician. Dr. Bello’s training as a statistician, an animal scientist and a veterinarian reflects her broad interdisciplinary research interests and set the foundation for the many research collaborations throughout her career. Her interests focus on experimental design and hierarchical models —including both Bayesian implementations and their frequentist counterparts, mixed models—, their development and advancement, as motivated by compelling problems in agriculture and the biological sciences. Most recently, Dr. Bello’s work expanded to systems-level modeling that calls for synergistic integration across scientific domains at the interface of causal inference, structural equations and network modeling. Dr. Bello enjoys the outdoors in all its forms: hiking, backpacking, camping, kayaking, biking, swimming, sailing, golfing… any and all, just to be out in fresh air. She will take you up on every chance to be outside, even if just for a walk. She lives in Columbus, Ohio, with her partner Don. |
