Citrus cultivars are preserved in liquid nitrogen at the ARS National Laboratory for Genetic Resources Preservation for long-term safekeeping. Here, a 1-millimeter citrus shoot tip is placed into a droplet of cryoprotectant solution on a foil strip. The strip will then be plunged into liquid nitrogen.
