Nontoxigenic A. flavus bioplastic granules between corn leaves

Granules from an application of nontoxigenic strains of Aspergillus flavus lay nestled in the folds of a developing corn plant. Scientists at the ARS Biological Control of Pests Research Unit in Stoneville, Mississippi, are studying the application of nontoxigenic A. flavus as a first-line defense against aflatoxin contamination of corn. Results from the study have expanded the potential of using of biological control technology as an effective method for reducing aflatoxin contamination and will provide useful information to public and private sector researchers and industrial grain producers.
