With ICP emission spectrometry, ARS plant physiologist Ross Welch can determine the amount of iron and zinc in this liquid obtained by acid-digesting bean seeds. ICP uses the unique characteristic light emitted from an element when heated to 8,000ºC in an argon plasma to indicate the element's quantity.
