ARS physical scientist Moon Kim (left) and agricultural engineer Jianwei Qin prepare lettuce seedlings for hyperspectral fluorescence imaging at the ARS Environmental Microbial and Food Safety Laboratory in Beltsville, MD. They are developing the imaging system jointly with NASA plant scientists to scan plants for early signs of stress and diseases in ready-to-eat salad crops to be produced in growth chambers on future space missions.
