Physical research scientist John Sulik uses a hand-held radiometer to measure spectral reflectance from spring rapeseed in plots near Pendleton, Oregon. Spectral reflectance obtained with ground- and satellite-based sensors is being tested as a tool for predicting the crop’s nitrogen status, which may prove useful for predicting final oilseed traits desired by crushers and biorefiners.
