Terrie Wierenga, Biological Science Technician |
I have been involved in research since 1977 when I started working part-time at the Iowa State University Meats Laboratory. After graduation in 1980, I worked at the USDA-ARS National Animal Disease Center in Ames, IA, studying Vitamin D and its metabolites. I moved to Logan in 1985 and began working at the Poisonous Plant Research Laboratory as a biological science technician. My main work (between my trips!) is in reproductive toxicology, i.e., how consuming poisonous plants affects the reproductive processes (breeding, gestation, and fetal growth and development) of livestock.
I am the location Collateral Duty Safety Officer (CDSO) and the Biosafety Officer (BSO) for the three Logan ARS research laboratories. In 1996, I became a member of the ARS Northern Plains Area Safety, Health, and Environmental Policy and Implementation Team.
