The USDA-ARS Columbia Plateau Conservation Research Center (CPCRC ) in Pendleton, OR conducts research in crop production systems to increase profit and promote environmental quality on soil,
water stewardship, the agronomics, and biological aspects of production systems. Ensuring the work conducted in the unit conforms to International Standard Organization (ISO) 14001 standards. We
strive to minimize environmental impacts and continually improve our safety, health and environmental performance by:
• Developing annual goals, objectives, and targets to advance our program performance in terms of both regulated and unregulated impacts.
• Considering environmental impacts when making unit policies, planning, purchasing, and operating decisions.
• Identifying and complying with pertinent requirements in Federal, State, local laws, and regulations; as well as Department of Agriculture and ARS policies, procedures, and industry codes that we must adhere to.
• Minimize the generation and sources of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, and emissions to the extent that it is economically and technically practical.
• Store, use and dispose of chemicals and potentially hazardous materials and waste in a manner that protects the environment as well as the health and safety of the work force and the public.
• Requesting the necessary resources to successfully carry out our goals, objectives, and targets.
• Effectively communicating our commitment to the environment with employees, partners, stakeholders, customers, and the general public in developing a plan to achieve our goals, and objectives.
• Performing scheduled annual environmental quality assessments to determine compliance.
• Correcting identified deficiencies in a timely manner and taking appropriate steps to prevent their recurrence.
• Clearly documenting and reporting the progress, training, and achievements related to this units policy.
