apu (Apulvinic)
On normal pea leaves, the leaflets attach sessile to the rachis of the leaf at little bumps on the rachis called pulvini (singular=pulvinus). On leaves of plants expressing the apu mutation, however, the pulvini are replaced by short petiolules. The leaflet in the image on the right, above, shows an extreme expression of apu, with the petiolule being about a centimeter long.
The locus for apu maps to linkage group III, and the gene is recessively inherited. There 50 accessions in this collection that are described at this locus. If you would like to query for this mutation, click here.
