Bulf - Burnt Leaf
The burnt leaf mutation (bulf) is a recessively inherited gene that manifests itself as a papery necrosis around the periphery of leaflets, and sometimes stipules and tendrils. The photograph above shows the impact of bulf on all three plant parts. Besides the burnt leaves, plants with the bulf phenotype also exhibit reduced vigor and seed set.
This mutation was first reported by B. Sharma in Pisum Newsletter V.5. It was isolated in the M/2 generation of the EMS treated variety 'Bonneville'. Only two accessions in this collection carry the bulf mutation, which is located near the end of linkage group III. If you would like to query for this mutation, click here.
