The USDA laboratory in Wapato, WA is a 60,000 sq/ft facility built in 1995.  The facility has 18 fully equipped laboratories, 38 controlled environmental rooms, 16 controlled greenhouses, a USDA-APHIS certified quarantine lab, a potato cold storage unit, and a 100-bin fruit storage cold room. Nine scientists conduct research on biology and management of insect pests and pathogens of tree fruits and vegetables at the Wapato research station.  The facility also houses projects on field testing and residue analysis of pesticides for registration in specialty crops (IR-4).  The administrative staff for the Temperate Tree Fruit and Vegetable Research Unit operate from the Wapato facility.
