Education:
B.S. (Biology) University of Arizona
Ph.D (Molecular Plant Sciences) Washington State University
Research Interests:
Measurement, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Plant Pathology, Analytical Chemistry
Aims:
Our job is to develop new more profitable and sustainable potato varieties. A majority of this work is focused on introgression of disease resistance and other beneficial alleles from wild or primitive germplasm and development of specialty potato clones.
Background:
I possess over 15 years of agricultural research experience primarily focused on using forward and reverse genetics to better understand the mechanisms behind plant traits in model systems (Arabidopsis thaliana, Setaria viridis).
Approach:
We combine conventional, molecular, and computer vision measurements with modern genotyping techniques to perform linkage/association mapping within structured genetic populations. The goals of these efforts are to develop molecular markers which can utilized to identify and select for promising clones.
