Mission:
The mission of the Watershed Physical Processes Research Unit of the National Sedimentation Laboratory is to develop improved methods to measure, control, and predict erosion and sediment yield from fields, streams, and impoundments in agricultural watersheds and to develop water management practices and systems that improve water availability for agricultural sustainability. Research emphasizes the physical processes controlling sheet and rill erosion; gully erosion; streambank failure; stream channel erosion; transport and deposition of sediment; state of the art electronic and acoustic assessment technologies; and modeling technologies that evaluate management practice effectiveness in controlling erosion at field, channel and watershed scales.
