Kerry Pedley is the Lead Scientist of the emerging foreign plant pathogens project at the Foreign Disease/Weed Science Research Unit (FDWSRU) located on the Fort Detrick U.S. Army installation in Frederick, Maryland. Dr. Pedley leads a multidisciplinary research project on emerging foreign fungal plant pathogens that threaten U.S. agricultural interests.

Research Emphasis

My research brings traditional plant pathology methods and advanced molecular approaches to bear on plant-microbe interactions in non-model systems, including historically intractable pathosystems and plant diseases of global significance. Research objectives involve the identification and characterization of plant resistance genes, uncovering the mechanisms of pathogenicity, and diagnostic assay development. Current research is focused on fungal diseases that threaten two of the most important U.S. crops – soybean rust and wheat blast.
