Dr. Sistani is a Research Leader and Location Coordinator of the Food Animal Environmental Systems Research Unit in Bowling Green, KY. The focus of research is nutrient concentrations and forms of nutrients in animal manure as affected by those factors which can be modified such as best management practices (BMPs). Also the fate of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and metals over time in soils exposed to long term applications of animal manure with regard to Soil Health and the environmental impacts.  Laboratory, climate chamber, small field plots, and watershed scale research experiments are conducted to identify the BMPs for reducing potential for pollution to the surface water, atmosphere (greenhouse gases) and for remediation of heavily fertilized fields with agricultural waste including animal manure.
