Andrew Stone is a support scientist (Biologist) at the Foreign Disease/Weed Science Research Unit, having worked at this Frederick, MD ARS location since 1987. Research topics include risk assessments for the potential US emergence of soybean dwarf virus and Wheat Dwarf Virus, and surveying for and identifying their potential insect vectors in the U.S. Other skills include virus purification, production of anti-sera and monoclonal antibodies and the design and validation of RT-PCR and real time PCR assays for plum pox virus and citrus greening disease.

Currently detailed to Dr. Rachel Koch-Bach’s lab working on the fungal causal agents of soybean red leaf blotch, coffee leaf rust and peanut smut.

Previously worked as a Biological Science Aide (Plants) in the Fruit Lab in Beltsville, MD on meristem culture and virus indexing of strawberry plants while an undergraduate student (1985-1986).
