Glen Groben completed his Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Rutgers University. His PhD research utilized molecular tools to better understand cool-season turfgrass diseases and mycobiomes. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Crouch’s lab focusing on the taxonomy of the graminicolous downy mildews and developing oomycete detection tools.
Research Emphasis
Currently working on the defining the species boundaries for the graminicolous downy mildews including the select agent Peronosclerospora philippinensis.
Dr. Groben's other research focus is developing and validating a new sequencing approach that utilizes long read sequencing technologies to identify oomycete directly from environmental samples.
His PhD research focused on the development of a qPCR assay for Clarireedia spp. the causal agent of dollar spot in turfgrasses and utilized the qPCR assay to better understand the lifecycle of the pathogen. Dr. Groben also used long read sequencing technology to better understand the mycobiome of cool-season turfgrass under drought stress.
