John Dobbs is a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Crouch’s lab. Dr. Dobbs has forest pathology related experience with projects including classical breeding for disease resistance, systems biology, bioinformatics, primer design and testing, field diagnostic experience, tree pathogen inoculations, and vegetative propagation. In his masters and Ph.D. research in plant pathology from Colorado State University, he studied Fusarium spp. diversity and pathogenomics among tropical and temperate hardwood (e.g., Acacia koa) and soft wood (e.g., Pinus spp. and Picea spp.) tree species.

Research Emphasis

Systems biology investigations of the interactions between the fungal pathogens that cause boxwood blight and foreign oak wilt diseases and woody plant species, boxwoods and oaks.

Current research projects include population genomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics pathway analysis, and diagnostic assay development. Developing rapid diagnostics assays using multiple technologies including next- and third-generation sequencing, high-throughput analysis, and visual detection.
