Areas of Expertise: Population Genetics, Risk Assessment, Molecular Marker Development, Host-plant Interactions

Doctor Brandon (Brandi) Schemerhorn is the lead scientist of the USDA ARS Insect Pest Interactions Research Project in West Lafayette, Indiana USA. Her specialty is population dynamics, risk assessment, and molecular interactions of host-pest interactions. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame.  The overarching priorities of her research are to identify and predict the spread of virulence in pests and pathogens in agricultural crops. Her work specializes on the insect and viruses they transmit. Her primary research subjects are control of Hessian fly, a devastating pest of wheat throughout the world, and how Greenbug and Cherry Oat Aphid transmit Cereal dwarf viruses.
