Research Interests: (click here to see a list of current research projects)
- Assessing the effectiveness of conservation practices at field landscape and watershed scales in the Choptank watershed.
- Working to improve implementation of winter cover crop for water quality protection in the Chesapeake Bay watershed by use of remote sensing to detect cover crop performance on working landscapes.
- Working to improve assessment of ecosystem services provided by wetlands in agricultural ecosystems and toward development of adaptive management tools for better wetland management on working landscapes.
- Improving the ability to measure carbon sequestration in agricultural ecosystems and to gain better understanding of the impact of soil movement on carbon dynamics within agricultural landscapes.
- Quantifying changes in soil carbon storage under plow tillage and no tillage management and assessing emissions of greenhouse gases under these management systems.
- Developing improved remote sensing tools for detecting crop residue burning on croplands and for improved assessment of black carbon emissions in northern latitudes that lead to increased snow melt in the Arctic.
