Before joining the USDA-ARS, Dr. Wang was tenured professor at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and co-director of graduate programs in soil water climate and water resources sciences.  His areas of research include environmental fate, transport, and efficacy of methyl bromide alternatives in pre-plant soil fumigation; hydraulic properties of porous media (soils and soilless substrates); irrigation water and solute transport in porous media under different environmental and climatic conditions; and remote sensing of evaporation and crop water use.

His current projects are to develop sustainable and environmentally sound methyl bromide alternatives and water management strategies for strawberries, grapes, and peaches using field, laboratory, and modeling studies.
