Research Microbiologist

I am a Research Microbiologist in the Soil, Water and Air unit at NLAE.  My lab seeks to understand environmental and microbial controls on emissions of nitrous oxide from soil, a potent greenhouse gas.  Additionally, we work to investigate how management systems influence soil and plant-associated microbial communities, and the consequences for nutrient cycling and soil health. Ultimately, we aim identify tools that can help harness these communities to support plant productivity and limit nutrient losses from our agroecosystems.  I’m originally from Michigan, but have called Ohio, western Massachusetts, and upstate New York home. In January 2020, my family and I moved to Ames, Iowa to begin work at NLAE.  When not in the lab, I enjoy just about anything outdoors and try to find time for camping, fly-fishing, gardening and cooking.
