Biography and Research
Haw Yen joined the NSERL in November 2024 as a scientist and Research Civil Engineer. Prior to the appointment with USDA-ARS, he was working at the Blackland Research and Extension Center, Texas A&M University, as postdoctoral research associate and assistant research scientist, from 2013 to 2021. Later, a 4-year experience in industry at Bayer CropScience as senior scientist from 2021 to 2024. He received his B.S. (2002) and M.S. (2004) degrees from the Department of Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering, National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, and a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, in 2012. His research interests cover field/watershed scale modeling, environmental assessment, water resources allocation, operations research, and uncertainty analysis. Specifically, the Great Lakes Region is one of his primary research areas in the United States. Currently, he is the active member and technical committee chair in several academic societies including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the American Geophysical Union (AGU). In addition, he is also serving as affiliate assistant professor at the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment, Auburn University since 2020.
