Infantry disturbance at Transition-type sites creates an increased risk of water erosion, but a low risk of wind erosion. Overall vegetation (primarily grass) recovery can take less than twelve months following treatment although shrub cover recovery can take up to three years. Full site recovery, including microbiotic crust recovery is likely to take six years or longer following treatment whereas soil infiltration rates are unlikely to be greatly affected by disturbance. Overall, the risk from livestock disturbance to soil and vegetation is low at transition type sites and treatments can be repeated safely every three to four years.
