LIVESTOCK DUNE MARGIN |
Some caution should be used when applying horse disturbance to Dune margin-type sites as recovery is likely to take four to six years. The impact of horse disturbance on conditions at Dune margin-type sites is relatively high and recovery of soil functionality is relatively slow. Soil compaction is likely to be high following disturbance and vegetation recovery may be slow. There is a low risk of water erosion, but a high risk of wind erosion following disturbance. A minimum of four years should be left between disturbance events in order for vegetation to recover. Full site recovery, including microbiotic crust and soil infiltration rate recovery, is likely to take six years or more following treatment, however.
