Define genetic merit from component traits that may be antagonistically correlated. Identify molecular genetic markers associated with traits of economic and/or biological importance. Develop genetic evaluation systems that accurately predict merit from available quantitative and molecular information. Validate efficacy of new knowledge and technology in accelerating genetic improvement.
