Notice To the Public of Historic Property Adverse Effect

Seven Assets at Fort Keogh in Miles City, MT

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is proposing to demolish seven buildings located at the Fort Keogh, Livestock and Range Research Laboratory in Miles City, Montana. The buildings have been found be eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and the undertaking will have an adverse effect to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)- Fort Keogh Historic District. The assets are in a deteriorated state and are excess to the needs of USDA ARS.

In accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA), as amended and 36 CFR 800, USDA ARS in consultation with the Montana Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) finds this undertaking to have an adverse effect to historic properties that are eligible for or listed in the NRHP, as defined in 36 CFR Part 800.5(a)(2).

The USDA ARS proposes to work with the Montana SHPO to define stipulations to mitigate the adverse effect pursuant to 36 CRF 800.6.

Any person or group wishing to submit comments regarding the adverse effect may do so in writing by April 10, 2022. Comments should be directed to Alex Gau, Realty Specialist, at Alexandra.gau@usda.gov.
