Objective:
Objectives include, but are not limited to: 1) improving ornamental horticulture's environmental and resource management practices and strategies; 2) improving insect, disease and weed management practices and strategies for ornamental horticulture; 3) improving ornamental horticulture's production system practices and strategies.

Approach:
The approaches for this research include, but are not limited to: 1) reduce nitrate use, pesticide use and runoff/leaching from production sites to prevent contamination of soil, water and air; 2) improve remediation efforts for industry wastes and for other environmental problems, 3) develop systems for the reduction, re-use, and recycling of organic and inorganic wastes in production facilities; 4) develop IPM, biocontrol, chemical control, and resistant plant approaches for controlling thrips mites, root weevils, aphids, mealy bug, root pathogens, botrytis, viruses, mildews, rusts, nematodes, and bacteria; 5) develop practices to reduce production time and maximize plant quality and postproduction performance; 6) improve collection and preservation ornamental plants and genetic materials. Original Start and Termination Dates were 03/01/1999 through 02/28/2004.
