Location: Environmental Microbial & Food Safety Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-32420-006-019-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2017
End Date: Apr 1, 2021

Objective:
Disseminate research findings to national and international stakeholders and promote developed technology adoption through established UC Postharvest Technology Center (PTC) extension and outreach content and programs.

Approach:
An integrated technology transfer and outreach approach will utilize established PTC Shortcourse, workshop, webinars, and e-newsletter venues with multiple social media platforms to extend relevant project outcomes to diverse industry professionals, media outlets in food safety and quality, and end-consumers of minimally processed fresh produce. Key messaging will integrate research outcomes directed at risk awareness and risk reduction in postharvest handling and processing as well as retail point of purchase management. The focus will include prevention of cross-contamination and optimization of postharvest wash water quality. Social media platforms will include project discovery, tools, Best Practices, and related narrative, graphic and video content posted to Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and YouTube. As possible, select outreach materials will be delivered in Spanish.
