Research Project: Management of Fusarium Head Blight in Small Grains

Location: National Programs

Project Number: 0500-00053-004-069-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 6, 2019
End Date: May 5, 2021

Objective:
The objectives of this research are: 1) test new fungicides available to growers and develop best management protocols, 2) generate data and enahance development of FHB and DON risk prediction tools and 3) establish a central screening field-testing site for transgenic spring wheat and barley lines developed by the USWBSI.

Approach:
The researcher will conduct fungicide trials in Minnesota in order to determine the best management strategies for growers in this region. Also, an inoculated field nursery will be established at the University of Minnesota's research farm to evaluate transgenic wheat and barley lines. The researcher will conduct the nursery following Minnesota state and US federal regulations for field testing of transgenic material.
