Research Project: Smart Traps for Enhanced Disease Vector Surveillance

Location: Arthropod-borne Animal Diseases Research

Project Number: 3020-32000-018-008-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 2, 2019
End Date: Sep 1, 2022

Objective:
Cooperator will support the development and construction of prototype smart traps for disease vector mosquitoes and biting midges. The traps will use novel technologies to enhance vector surveillance by increasing trap capture and communication with users.

Approach:
Cooperator will utilize electronics (such as light emitting diodes, carbon dioxide generation, peltier motors, etc.) to improve current insect traps attraction, reduce power consumption, and construct novel devices that can communicate with the user.
