Research Project: Genomic Selection of Channel, Blue and Hybrid Catfish

Location: Warmwater Aquaculture Research Unit

Project Number: 6066-31000-016-020-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2020
End Date: Aug 30, 2025

Objective:
1. Evaluate use of genomic selection to improve economically important traits in purebred channel and blue catfish. 2. Evaluate use of genomic selection to improve economically important traits in channel catfish x blue catfish hybrids.

Approach:
Analyze phenotypic, genotypic and pedigree data from purebred channel and blue catfish populations under development at the Warmwater Aquaculture Research Unit (WARU), ARS to determine optimal strategies to implement genomic selection, resulting in the development of superior germplasm for release to U.S. catfish farmers.
