Research Project: Areawide Pest Management of Whitefly- and Thrips-transmitted Viruses in Fruiting Vegetables in Four Production Regions of Florida with GCC

Location: Subtropical Plant Pathology Research

Project Number: 6034-22000-045-010-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2020
End Date: Jun 30, 2025

Objective:
Establish the areawide pest management (AWPM) team, AWPM regions, communication infrastructure, and promote the project.

Approach:
Project implementation will start by hiring a ‘Field Site Coordinator’ (FSC). The FSC will assist in the design and construction of the demonstration and sentinel plots. After which, the FSC will be responsible for sentinel plot maintenance – generally in coordination with the grower – particularly for the annual or semi-annual field days. The FSC will be responsible for the routine monitoring and data collection of field sites in all four regions. The FSC and Farm Dog personnel will be the points-of-contact for users who are struggling with any aspect of the AWPM procedures. For example, the FSC may assist a grower on how to input data using Farm Dog Scout. Cooperator will: 1) Assist in identifying growers cooperators. 2) Establish sentinel plots. 3) Help to define the four AWPM regions. 4) Contribute to the biweekly/monthly newsletter and AWPM website.
