Research Project: Identifying and Prioritizing Aquaculture Research Opportunities

Location: National Programs

Project Number: 0500-00104-001-000-D
Project Type: In-House Appropriated

Start Date: Apr 6, 2020
End Date: Apr 5, 2025

Objective:
Identify new opportunities for ARS to conduct impactful research that improves domestic aquaculture production efficiency and product quality while minimizing impacts on natural resources. Specific areas of interest will include marine warmwater finfish, domestic shrimp production and harmful algal blooms.

Approach:
As the Congress provides funds towards new research initiatives, ARS will identify the best opportunities to apply research expertise and capacity towards developing impactful technologies that meet the needs of industry. To accomplish this, ARS will conduct research communication and coordination activities with stakeholders, other government agencies, universities and non-governmental organizations. These funds will also support the acquisition of data, information and or analyses that inform research direction and prioritization.
